500 ATHLETES REGISTER FOR ARIZA CREDIT UNION JUNIORS THIS WEEKEND

ST. GEORGE – The Grenada Athletic Association (GAA) announced on Thursday that all is set for the Ariza Credit Union National Junior Championships, to be held on March18 & 19.  The Championships cater for competition among male and female athletes under 20 years of age.

 

It is used as the main criteria for selection to the CARIFTA Games, World U-20, World U-18 Championships, Commonwealth Youth Games and other Aged Divisional meets.

The CARIFTA Games, the region's premier junior event will be held in Curacao on the Easter week-end, 15-17 April 2017. The IAAF World U-20 and U-18 Championships, the highest level of competition for junior and youth athletes, provide an opportunity for athletes to compete against the best in their age group in the world.

The Ariza Credit Union National Junior Championships includes athletes from all secondary schools, clubs with junior athletes and some primary schools.   Besides seeking selection to the above-named meets, athletes and teams use this meet as a precursor to Inter-Secondary Schools Championships (Inter-Col) to compare their performances with their competitors. Inter-Col will be held from 3-5 April 2017, at the Grenada Athletics Stadium.

The Ariza Juniors will compete in 94 events over the two days, Saturday 18 and Sunday 19, March for boys and girls competing in four age categories, Under 14, 16, 18 and 20.

Event Director, Conrad Francis, says that after this week's Technical Meeting of Coaches and Officials, all is set for this week-ends Championships with 500 athletes.

The Championships begin at 10.00 a.m. on Saturday and 11.30 a.m. on Sunday. The Opening Ceremony will be held at 2.00 p.m. on Saturday.

Admission to the Championships is $15 for the Main Pavilion and $10.00.for Bleachers.   Tickets are on sale at Ariza Credit Union branches throughout the country.
