ST GEORGE - The Grenada Olympic Committee (GOC) salutes all women -- especially those in sports, on the global observance of the 107th anniversary of International Women's Day (IWD), under the theme, "Be Bold for Change."

General Secretary of GOC, Veda Bruno-Victor said that women, especially in Grenada, continue to make significant strides, not just in politics, health, education and other sectors -- but also in sports.

Bruno-Victor said that despite the many challenges faced by women, the GOC recognises the unwavering contribution of women in society and encourages the nation to continue to recognise the extraordinary roles they play in our communities.

She said the theme this year, "Be Bold for Change", should serve as an inspiration and motivation, especially to young women -- despite the gender gap.

"The size of your dreams must always exceed your current capacity to achieve them," the Liberian President, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, told Harvard graduation class in 2011. "If your dreams do not scare you, they are not big enough."

United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres said, "On International Women's Day, let us all pledge to do everything we can to overcome entrenched prejudice, support engagement and activism, and promote gender equality and women's empowerment".

The GOC has a functioning women's committee, and this year, will embark on further programmes and initiatives to enrich the lives of young women in Grenada, through sports.
