ECTEL MEETS WITH LOCAL BROADCASTERS
St. George -- Media workers spent most of the day on Thursday dissecting the fast growing telecommunications sector in Grenada.
The ECTEL workshop was staged to explain changes in the regulatory landscape for electronic communications, and the role of ECTEL in the Eastern Caribbean States. Here is a report from Rikisha St. Louis
Meanwhile, the NTRC, which is ECTEL's local arm in Grenada came under fire from broadcasters for its uncertainty about its role as a regulator, and failure to act effectively in ensuring that broadcast regulations are complied with.
Broadcasters pointed to several instances where the body appeared to be ineffective and called for serious consideration to be given to the establishment of a regulatory body such as the CRTC in Canada or the FCC in the United States which are generally free from political interference.
