ANOTHER INTERACTIVE SESSION ON THE DRAFT LEGISLATION FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT

ImageHillsborough, Carriacou, June 24th, 2010 –It will be a fitting tribute to the late Prime Minister Herbert Augustus Blaize when local government becomes a reality in Carriacou and Petite Martinique. That’s the belief of well known constitutional lawyer Dr. Francis Alexis, QC.

Dr. Alexis, who led another presentation here on the draft legislation for the implementation of local government in Carriacou and Petite Martinique, said one important section would not have been part of the Constitution were it not for Mr. Blaize.

He was referring to Section 107 which states: “There shall be a council for Carriacou and Petite Martinique which shall be the principal organ of local government.”

PRIME MINISTER MEETS NEW CZECH REPUBLIC AMBASSADOR

Image ST.GEORGE’S, GRENADA, MAY 11th, 2010_ Prime Minister Tillman Thomas says his administration is exploring ways of diversifying its sources of energy, given the island’s dependence on imported oil and the high cost of this commodity.

The Prime Minister made the comment on Tuesday, during a courtesy call by the new Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Grenada, His Excellency Stanislav Slavicky.

Prime Minister Thomas said the government is exploring the possibility of thermal energy to supplement Grenada’s energy needs.
