TOP DEBATERS AWARDED AT 2012 NATIONAL YOUTH PARLIAMENT

St. George -- Shimron George, Dishon Edwards, and Rakeesha Lalgie were awarded top debaters in the recently held National Youth Parliament, an activity put on by the Ministry of Youth Empowerment Sports that culminated Youth Month Activities, 2012.

In the fight for the top place in the debate a difference of one point separated Shimron George who placed first and Dishon Edwards who finished second.

Chief Judge of the debate Raphael Donald of the Office of the Houses of Parliament said George and Edwards displayed different personalities. "One was good at using the hands and throwing his voice. The other was very controlled, serene, and sedate but used the force of his personality to pound the points."

BRITISH CHEVENING SCHOLARSHIPS IN BARBADOS AND EASTERN CARIBBEAN

Barbados -- The application period for the UK's Chevening Scholarships scheme has been extended to enable final applications to be made. Students wishing to study in the UK in the academic year 2013-2014 must get their applications in before the close of business on Thursday 20 December. Applications will be accepted online from nationals of Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean who wish to pursue fully funded postgraduate studies at an academic institution in the UK.
