NETHERLANDS INSURANCE DOUBLES SOBER-UP ZONE TO BRING IN 2017
St. George -- The Netherlands sponsored Sober-Up Zone was another big hit on New Year's Eve. Operations were set up at two of the holidays' most popular celebratory events – "Glamour" at the Port Louis Marina and "Inception" at the Grenadian by Rex Resorts.
Patrons were invited to visit the Sober-up Zones prior to leaving the sites to have a voluntary breathalyser test done. If found to be over the legal limit, they were offered coffee, water and salted crackers. The Zones then offered a chance for patrons to sit for a while before taking the wheel for the ride home. The two events hosted approximately 2500 partygoers to ring in the New Year.
The initiative was first undertaken over the Carnival festivities in August, following which public demand prompted Netherlands to again undertake the exercise on New Year's Eve. It is meant to educate the public on the dangers of driving under the influence.
