CONGRESS CONFIRMS AMBASSADOR TO GRENADA, BARBADOS AND THE EASTERN CARIBBEAN

St. George -- The Embassy of the United States of America to Grenada, Barbados and the islands of the Eastern Caribbean is pleased to announce that on March 30, the U.S. Senate confirmed Larry Palmer to be the new Ambassador to Grenada, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Speaking on February 7 to the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Ambassador Palmer said, “I am honored to have been nominated to represent the United States in this important region. These nations play an important role both bilaterally and in multilateral organizations like the Organization of American States and the United Nations.”

CUBANS TO WELCOME POPE WARMLY

Havana, Mar 26 (Prensa Latina) Flags, placards and welcoming posters were part of the atmosphere of hospitality to welcome Pope Benedict XVI, who began an apostolic visit to Cuba on Monday.

Streets, avenues, public and business facilities, Catholic churches, cars, and houses are full of warm examples for the "Pilgrim of La Caridad del Cobre," a slogan that will accompany the second trip by a Supreme Pontiff to Cuba, after the one paid by Pope John Paul II in 1998.

An expectant atmosphere prevails in the eastern city of Santiago de Cuba, some 900 kilometers (559 miles) east of Havana, and in the capital.

OECS MEMBER STATES TO DISCUSS FUNDING CLIMATE CHANGE ADAPTATION

Castries, -- The OECS Secretariat will convene a two- day workshop to raise awareness and share experiences on instruments and best practices related to financing climate change adaptation and sustainable energy, and to generate feedback on planned future action and partnerships. A total of 40 persons are expected to participate in this workshop scheduled for Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th February 2012 at the Bay Gardens Hotel, Rodney Bay, Saint Lucia,

This workshop aims to bring together international and regional experts to discuss and explore carbon financing opportunities that will enhance the ability of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) such as those of the OECS to respond to the challenges of climate change and climate variability.
