GTAWU DECLARES: “RED DECEMBER”!!
Written by George Grant on December 4, 2017
The Grenada Technical and Allied Workers’ Union has declared the month of December 2017, “RED DECEMBER”!!
A release from TAWU says that the decision was been taken due to the fact that there are a number of important industrial relations matters which have been outstanding at a few companies for a period of time which remain unresolved and or unattended to, despite the best efforts of the Union to do so.
In this light, the following Companies have been targeted for immediate industrial actions:
1. Grenada Solid Waste Management Authority where — following a meeting with the Minister for Agriculture, workers have begun reporting to work wearing Red Union t-shirts as a form of protest over the delayed response on a number of matters . This industrial action can be escalated without further notice and have the potential to impact the disposal of garbage leading up to, and during the Christmas season.
2. St. Vincent Grenada Air (SVG Air) — the airline operating between Grenada, Carriacou, the Grenadines and other Islands, where on Monday, GTAWU instructed the members of its bargaining unit to begin wearing red ribbons as a show of low level industrial protest.
This action has become necessary, said the union due to the fact that the management of SVG Air has been attempting to frustrate the negotiations process for a first Collective Labour Agreement between the Union and the Company.
The Union has advised the management that there can and will be an escalation of this industrial action without further notice should the Company not treat this matter with the seriousness and urgency that is necessary.
Some matters at a few other companies will be dealt with during “RED DECEMBER, 2017”.
