CABRAL DOUGLAS SUED BY FRANCIS ALEXIS FOR LIBEL
Written by CIBONEY CHAMBERS on November 14, 2017
Ciboney Chambers, Attorneys-at-law for Dr. Francis Alexis, confirm that last Friday, 10 November, they, on his instructions issued a Claim instituting proceedings in the High Court of Grenada against Mr. Cabral Douglas.
That Claim, says Mr. Ruggles Ferguson of Ciboney Chambers, complains that Alexis was seriously libeled by materials Douglas published last month, October, on the internet. These materials made certain allegations about what Douglas says were the circumstances in which the book CHANGING CARIBBEAN CONSTITUTIONS (2nd Edn), written by Dr. Alexis, was printed and published in March 2015.
Those statements, Mr. Ferguson points out, are shown by Dr. Alexis in a sworn Affidavit, to be totally false in fact. Those statements are, therefore, Mr. Ferguson adds, highly defamatory of Dr. Alexis in law.
So, Mr. Ferguson adds, the claim would vindicate the good name and reputation of Dr. Alexis.
Alexis says he is being attacked by Douglas because Alexis showed to be completely groundless a certain allegation made by Douglas when Douglas lost a case he brought at the Caribbean Court of Justice.
Mr. Ferguson explains that Mr. Douglas has been informally informed fully at his internet address of the filing of the claim.
